Understanding HIFU Treatments: Layers and Collagen Stimulation

HIFU treatments for facial rejuvenation uses different depths, with the 1.5mm stimulating the epidermis layer of the skin, 3.0mm targeting the dermis layer, and 4.5mm penetrating the SMAS layer of the skin. Each target depth is stimulating collagen. Dermis layer and SMAS do not only consist of collagen but also of fat cells. Treating these layers leads to the destruction of fat cells. HIFU treatments have been known for its amazing results to tighten and lift. Let’s dig more into how HIFU helps with fat reduction and the science behind it.

Understanding How HIFU Treatments Work

How HIFU Treatments Zaps Away Fat: The Amazing Non-Invasive Facelift

HIFU treatments involve thermal ablation, which helps deliver focused ultrasound energy to heat and damage excess fat, leading to cell death with the help of cavitation, in which the rapid heating creates micro bubbles causing mechanical damage to fat cells and enables HIFU to target fat cells while sparing surrounding tissue through selective photothermolysis.

The Science Behind Fat Reduction with HIFU Treatments

It uses ultrasound energy that uses different wavelengths to penetrate different layers of the skin. It stimulates collagen production by heating the target area, which helps to lift and tighten. Since it reaches the SMAS layer, this treatment can also help with fat reduction of the face, which has shown great results in reduction of double chin. Double chin for most of the cases is not only a pouch of fat but a combination of sagging and fat. That’s why HIFU treatments are highly recommended for this case, as it helps both skin concerns, giving you a more contoured face.

What to Expect Before, During, and After Your HIFU Treatments

There is no big preparation needed for this treatment; it is not painless, as some spots are sensitive but tolerable. No downtime as skin reaction is limited to redness and skin sensitivity. For optimum results, 3–4 sessions are recommended. How quickly you can see results may depend on the nature and severity of your skin laxity. Depending on the client’s collagen-building process and biological response to ultrasound energy, some people will benefit more from a sequence of treatments 8–12 weeks after the initial HIFU course. On the other hand, you can see HIFU results as early as 12 weeks after treatment and report further improvement in problematic areas for up to 6 months.

Below are the following pre-treatment guidelines:

  • Avoid sun exposure and self-tanning products. Sunburned or tanned skin will not be treated.

  • Avoid any injectables in or near the treatment area 4 weeks prior to your treatment.
  • Avoid laser treatments on the area being treated 2 weeks prior to your treatment.
